Alabama Lifestyle Blog

October 2, 2011 / auburn, life of a BCBA, ramblings

recent happenings.

so normally i don’t do the whole “this is what’s been going on in life” approach to blogging; telling stories of weekend excursions with several pictures and such, but rather pen the contemplative expression of what’s been lingering in this mind of mine.  however, these past few months, a multitude of things have occurred that i feel are worth sharing. and as the majority of people i care most about in my life reside rather far away from me, i’ve come to conclude that a more stereotypical blog post could be tolerated every now and again; a submission i can assure at least two people will appreciate.

in july the husband and i celebrated 6 months of marriage by moving into a much needed new space! our lease expired on the old apartment we were gratefully receiving free of charge from my fellowship, so we were able to upgrade to a two bedroom, two bath, high ceiling, spacious apartment that we absolutely adore! we also made our first big purchase & got new furniture for the bedroom, living room, and dining room! we moved in on a friday and happened to have some friends in town on saturday so we decorated quickly & were able to have a wonderful “house-warming” party with some pretty awesome people…

the end of july also marked the end of my time in my fellowship.  as you may have read in a previous post, i spent the first two weeks doing schools consulting at a school two hours away. since then, i have thankfully settled into a position as an instructional support specialist in the behavior department of the residential side of the agency i had already been working for (The Learning Tree, Inc.). let’s just say there are lots of things to get acclimated to. nevertheless, a raise and a stable job are such incredible blessings.

my desk space at main campus.

football season has begun! we’ve been fortunate enough to make it to one game so far this season, and we hope to make it to at least one more where the annual “Block-party” tailgate will be happening with several close friends that we seldom get to see.  since we’ve been in mobile for the rest of the games, we’ve been excited to play host for several game day gatherings. Glenn and i both have LOVED getting to have people over and use our grill and all our serving stuff to create such fun get togethers with both old and new friends.

at the beginning of september, the husband and i joined a bible study at the church we’ve been attending. we are doing the Disciple 1 Bible Study and are pretty excited about the structure and content of the class! though we had hoped for an opportunity for not only spiritual growth, but a close community of other believers our age as well, we are content with only the former and will fervently continue searching for the later.

brad was recently promoted to staff sergeant in the army (so proud of my big brother!) and mom, Glenn and i were all able to be there to celebrate with him!  i was even the one who pinned him, which was super cool, and meant more to me than i think he will ever understand. he pretty much has an awesome job working for the CID and i am so proud of all he’s accomplished.  that weekend we were also able to spend some relaxing time camping with some friends at such a beautiful lake.

outside of attempting to be a great BCBA and an even better wife, i’ve come to occupy my time at home with an array of other interests as well.  aside from my kindle and the plethora of books i have on my reading list, i have recently become obsessed with two sites online. the first most of you will see me as a total dork for, and i am more than ok with that. despite the “end of an era” with the final harry potter movie coming out in july (which of course i saw at midnight complete with bertie botts every flavor beans & butterbeer cupcakes) new & old generations of fans alike can explore an incredible array of new content from j.k.rowling herself on Pottermore.  my other obsession, i dare say many of you have already explored yourselves is pinterest.  Pinterest is an amazing collection of images, a virtual pin board if you will, from every possible genre you could imagine.  from style to craft ideas and travel locations to home decor, anything and everything can be “pinned” to your own set of boards for your viewing pleasure. i. am. obsessed.

on another note, i can’t believe it’s already october & that it’s been almost 9 months since we got married! a year will be here before we know it! and every day i learn something new about my sweet husband and find yet another reason why i love him. i am so very blessed to have my best friend beside my during this crazy journey of life!

from our exciting camping trip at the lake 🙂

well, that’s the recap of some recent happenings of life here on the bay. hope you enjoyed the departure from the norm on this rare occasion 🙂

Hey pain. I just read this about when you pinned me… I am so glad you could be there to do that for me. 🙂 I love you so much and I am very proud of you, everything you have done and accomplished thus far in life. I am sure there will be another pinning and I will have to fly you where ever I am at to make sure you can pin me again.

Love your big brother ~ Bradley
