I love scarfs! (Shocker, right?) You’d think with my affinity for cardigans as well I would live (or want to) somewhere snowy or at least frigid, but nay. Despite the heat (and crazy humidity) in good ole Alabama, most establishments are always trying to freeze me out so I am simply prepared. And today it was finally cold enough outside to bundle up completely. I have two VERY bulky scarfs that keep me super cozy, but since I was visiting the husband at work, I wanted to be able to wear one that was not only warm, but wasn’t too big that I had to take it off & tote it around at lunch and such.
I’m a big fan of the infinity scarfs and ones that have enough fabric to give it some fluff too rather than when the ends end up hitting at an awkward length when you wrap it, but most of mine like that aren’t quite thick enough for warmth and/or don’t go well with brown boots. And then I remembered that I had the perfect scarf for such an occasion. A few years ago now a dear friend hand made this rustic brown (oooh think warm cappuccino esh) scarf for me as a present and I absolutely adore it. I’ve always worn it for warmth rather than fashion because of the length, until I recently saw a great many infinity scarfs with buttons for added flare while Christmas shopping. I thought that would be such an easy craft but never acted on it until today…
And wow was it every easy – I’m talking maybe five minutes total to pick the buttons (I have a few jars of buttons from over the years in my craft box), grab the string, sew them on, and button up. Easy peasy. I of course didn’t have two buttons the same, much less three, so I found some of the largest ones I had in neutral colors and I loved the cream ones with the tortoiseshell one that had a touch of cream as well to give it a cohesive and classic, but playful, feel. I used some oxblood/maroonish string to give it a tad more flare and sewed on the end of one side so I can “button” them into the scarf wherever I feel. And now I have an extremely versatile scarf that was handcrafted with love and makes me smile every time I see it because of the friendship it represents. Couldn’t be more thrilled!
