Serving Locally | Ransom Cafe

I love serving people. I have a passion for missions, especially out of the country endeavors for those in countries far less fortunate than the one we reside in. There is simply something about meeting a need that fills me with the most inexplicable joy. I have had the wonderful privilege through campus ministry and my knack for languages that have allowed for me to gain experiences throughout the world doing just this. Painting a house, digging a hole, mixing cement, building a ferro cement tank, teaching VBS, and countless other activities that would fill this page effortlessly. Needs come in all shapes and sizes. And on every corner of the planet. Not only in the third world countries, but right here in our own back yard as well. Something we pious Americans all too often tend to forget. Something I myself overlook if I’m not careful.  I have been seeking a place to serve these past few years in Mobile, seeking merely a week long mission trip as I worked during the day (as most people do) but was fortunate to have numerous days off to use for such an occasion, but was unable to find a fit to our schedule…

A few months ago now, our church announced that they would be partnering with a local ministry, Ransom Cafe, serving meals to those in need right here in our community.  I was rather excited to hear of this until I heard it was only during lunch hours. A friend of ours had started volunteering, and after my final day at work, I was able to join her. It was nice to know someone going into this new experience, and it’s been fun having a chance to simply live life together with others who love Jesus and want to serve Him by serving others. But more than that, it has been a blessing to become a part of a community willing to give of their time to serve those in need.

“Ransom Café is a ministry that operates like a restaurant. What makes us different is that there are no set menus or set prices. We operate strictly on donations.
We offer pizza on our handtossed whole wheat crust, deli Sandwiches, fresh salads, homemade soups and desserts…There is not a cash register, but there is a donation box available for your monetary contributions.”
I encourage you to visit their website, check out their Facebook Page, or even follow them on Twitter to see what they are all about. They have multiple locations in Mobile and are involved in a variety of programs. I urge you to donate as well. Your time, your resources, your prayers. Matt and Tara are meeting a very real physical and spiritual need and are truly a blessing to not only the people they serve, but the volunteers they work with as well.
