Here we are at our last post on the Social Media Organization series! Be sure to check out the first post on Twitter & Instapaper, and the second one on Facebook & Bloglovin if you missed them. Today I am going to go through scheduling. This is one of the best things I have learned through my blogging experience. I really dove into blogging the beginning of this year (Jan 1, 2013 actually) and made all the steps to really plug into this blogging world. If you take anything away form this series, it is definitely this post you need to focus on! It will make your life so much easier.
Scheduling will save you time, sleep, and running to the bathroom at work just to keep up with your readers! Get ready to take notes 🙂
Blogger Post Scheduling
If you’re like me and aren’t a morning person, write several posts at one time, have a day job & want to have a life outside of the computer as well, then this can certainly be your best friend! When you are writing a post, there is a tab on the right hand side for the post settings. The second option down (after Labels) is Schedule. Here you can choose the date and time you want your post to go live. Seriously, whenever you want, just click and make sure you press the “done” button under the calendar when you decide the perfect time. The most important part is to click “publish” when you complete writing your post instead of just saving it. When you do this, it is scheduled to go live at the time you chose. (If you haven’t chosen a time/date, it will publish right then like normal.) You can edit and change all you like until that time too. Just always click publish when you’re done. If you just click save, it will save as a draft and you will have to publish manually later.
Also under the post settings, right under the Schedule part, it says Permalink. When you click this, you will see the url that will take you to the post once it’s live on your site. This will be used in the next step!
HootSuite
When you make an account, you can connect all of your accounts (Facebook profile, Facebook Page, Twitter account (s), and several other accounts. Write one post (with links, pictures, the works) and then it will post to all that you check at the same time…
You can also schedule ahead to post/tweet when your newest post goes live on your blog or use the auto scheduler to have it post at a time when they think it will have the most impact. Pretty nifty, huh? This is when that Permalink I mentioned in the Blogger portion above comes in handy.
It also helps to promote your blog all day long while you are otherwise occupied. And they have an app too so you can do all of this on the go. Add in their precious owl logo and you can understand why this is probably my new favorite app of all time.
Bloglovin
Back to Bloglovin! You can connect your blog account there to Facebook. It will post directly to your Facebook page (or profile page if you choose) when you publish a new post! One less thing for you to do!
