Is there anyone who ever remembers changing their mind from the paint on a sign? Is there anyone who really recalls ever breaking rank at all for something someone yelled real loud one time?Everyone believes in how they think it ought to be. Everyone believes. And they’re not going easily.Belief is a beautiful armor but makes for the heaviest sword. Like punching under water, you never can hit who you’re trying for. Some need the exhibition and some have to know they tried. It’s the chemical weapon for the war that’s raging on inside.Everyone believes. From emptiness to everything. Everyone believes. And no one’s going quietly. We’re never gonna win the world, we’re never gonna stop the war, we’re never gonna beat this if belief is what we’re fighting for. What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand? Belief can, belief can. What puts the folded flag inside his mother’s hand? Belief can, belief can.
I believe in a great deal of things that I freely express quite often, many in this space. My faith is certainly one of them. Equality of opportunities and quality of life for those with disabilities is another. However, there are a few things I believe quite strongly about but tend to never voice. So when thinking on something I strongly believe in but maybe don’t speak up about often, there were a great many items that came to mind. Why then, you may ask, do you believe this and what causes you to keep quiet about it?
If you remember, I am actively working on cultivating a gentle and quiet spirit. I am trying to let my yes be yes and my no be no and love those around me without pushing my views, and especially my beliefs on them. I could talk today about my views on the most controversial topics around – abortion & the pro-choice/pro-life battle. Sexuality & equality for the heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual & transsexual communities. My political views. My views on education – both elementary & collegiate. My goodness I could go on for days. So why then, do I not share these publicly? Because in the grand scheme of life, my opinion – my belief, on the majority of these topics don’t really matter. If I were to constantly dish these views, I would stir up nothing but drama, conflict, and unnecessary frustration and heartache. And how is that showing the love of Christ? Does fighting over these beliefs do anything to build the Kingdom up?
So while the following are things are not controversial, just things I may not speak up about often – they are things I think I should be more proactively vocal about. I believe in justice for your actions. I believe that hard work and experience trump connections any day. I believe that love is a choice that you make daily, not something you fall into and out of with ease. I believe that the Lord is working in all things, despite our plannings, and that He will provide for us. I believe that every person we come into contact with knows something we don’t and that we can learn from them. And that sometimes, other’s words can convey your heart just as if you penned it yourself, but that credit is always due to those who did. So I leave you with this, as my heart cries out to live by these words in more than simply my college days, but in what it means for the rest of my life.
I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.
I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.
I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.
I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.
I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.
I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.”
And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.-George Petrie (1945)

I feel exactly where you are coming from. I never want o offend and push someone into my beliefs. But in Christ's quiet spirit, He spoke a great volume through his actions and stirred quite a lot of things up.
