ABOUT HEATHER: & why she passionate about the AHA
Heather VacLav was born with a heart murmur, which later progressed to a condition known as aortic insufficiency as a teenager. The now 24-year old is an active volunteer and spokesperson for the American Heart Association and Go Red For Women in Birmingham and across Alabama. Although her heart condition affects her daily life, she does not let it stop her from spreading the word to empower women to save their lives.
There’s a lot of talk about inequality between men and women, but one area in particular where women are leading in record numbers: heart disease. It’s the No. 1 killer of women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer. But there’s a leadership role just waiting for women like you to pounce on: Leading the charge to end this deadly foe once and for all.
This is the leadership role you were born to take on. The strength of mothers, sisters, daughters and friends, fighting side by side is more powerful than any killer. It’s time to shout louder, stand stronger and demand change. So, what do you say? Are you ready to jump in and join the fight? We hope so. Because together, we can put an end to heart disease.
If in Birmingham, you can DM for volunteer info.
If you live elsewhere, contact your local chapter.
