When it comes to being resourceful, we do a pretty good job. I hate having things go to waste and just as equally I love repurposing items that would generally just be thrown out. Most times, you can make something crafty, so I try to get creative when I have items I don’t use, wear, etc.
This project in particular came when I was cleaning out my closet before sending items off for thredUP. I had this orange & blue stripped AU scarf (that I’m not entirely sure I have ever even worn) and I was contemplating donating it. It hit me at a weird length and had fringe on the ends, so I didn’t see myself in it, especially as I’ve been on an infinity scarf kick as of late. So I decided to tie the ends together, one fringe cluster at a time, and see if I could transform it! I cut the remaining fringe (which was thick yarn) and ended up with the perfect thick game day scarf that I am patiently waiting to wear the moment it gets chilly!
After this fun transformation, I had all these little strings of yarn left over that I didn’t want to just toss, and in popped the idea to make a game day garland to hang form the mantle since I have seen so many floating around pinterest! I separated the strips into equal piles (about five of each color) and pulled one out to be the tie. Then I folded the yarn over some thin rope we had and tied the bundle together with the tie piece. And voila! A super fun game day garland that could be made with yarn from the fabric store on the cheap as well for just about every season/holiday/party you can imagine!
