Meet & Greet: Riley

It’s Monday! Which means the third installment of Meet & Greet and round two of meeting the fur children – Riley, our puppy! Be sure to follow the entire series! (previous links at bottom of post).

Growing up we never had a dog, though there was a part of me that always wanted one because various neighbors did – retrievers, labs, and other big dogs – that enjoying running, fetching, and just loved people. The husband and I always talked about getting a dog, but never wanted to until we had a yard, and of course a fence, so it remained far off for us for the longest time. As we are closer to the farm now, and the husband enjoys hunting so much, he wanted to have a dog that would be able to go along on these adventures as well. I wanted one that would cuddle and be lovable with family, but also guard our house. Enter the breed we decided upon, the German Short-haired Pointer.
first week with us exploring her new home
We waited and waited (what seemed like forever) for the right pup to come along, and couldn’t be happier that we did! Our precious little girl is absolutely perfect and just the perfect addition to our little family! On July 11th, just a week before I left for Panama, the husband went to retrieve the most adorable little puppy you ever did see.

We named her Riley, and she is just as cute as can be. Her coloring is liver/roan and it’s pretty rare she is just the speckled coat and doesn’t have any large solid patches on her coat. Her little face and floppy ears make her expressions to die for! The husband starting training her to point (hence the name) on about day 2, and she already was tucking her little paw up and still as an arrow. It’s so cool to watch her go from running circles around everyone to being as still as a statue.

She loves sticks, chasing other pups around, and nuzzling up at night. She is a very smart puppy and has really been doing quite well learning commands, and she is growing like a weed! She goes through stuffed toys like crazy, and will try to chew on just about everything, and enjoys a rather early wake up call, but she is the cutest little puppy around, and we love her to pieces!

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a little over two months since we got her and that she is still just a puppy as much as she is growing, but I just can’t even imagine our house without her bouncing around inside and out of it!

still loves to snuggle on her bed even now that she isn’t swallowed up by it!
PS – this is merely a fraction of pictures of miss Riley – you’d be here for days if I posted them all! But be sure to follow along on Instagram and look for the tag #elliottpuppygram for more cuteness than you’ll know what to do with 😉

Do you have a puppy? What is their favorite thing to play with?
