It’s Monday! Which means the second installment of Meet & Greet and round one of meeting the fur children – Samantha, our kitty! Be sure to follow the entire series! (previous links at bottom of post)
When I was growing up, my brother had brought home a tiny kitten and begged our parents to let us keep him. It was then that I fell in love with cats! After my brother left for college, we had to say goodbye to our precious Rocket and I didn’t have another cat in my life until I was in grad school.

In the winter of 2009 however, December 4th to be exact, I brought home my precious little munchkin and she has been ours ever since! The husband and I liked to frequent the humane society while we were dating and play with the puppies, talk the larger dogs for walks, and my favorite part – play in the kitten room! I knew that I was going to adopt one of them that year, however I had been patiently waiting for the right one to pick me. So then one day, I saw her, and I knew she just had to come home with me. She jumped up into my lap, nuzzled her tiny little head into my arms, and the rest was history.

Now of course there had to be one snag in the story, because things never go that smoothly. That year I was living in an apartment with three other girls and there was a hefty fee to have any pets at all. I couldn’t possibly ask the other girls to chip in since the kitten would be mine, and I couldn’t just hide her away because maintenance might come in and accidentally set her loose. Not to mention, you have to have the letter of permission from your place of residence in order to even adopt. Thankfully, the husband was renting a house with a friend and the landlord (which also just happened to be one of our favorites from Wesley as it was the intern house at that time) was more than happy to write a letter allowing the incoming kitten free of charge! So technically, kitten became an Elliott long before I did!

After pondering for a while, the name Samantha was settled upon as being able to shorten her name to Sam was possible and the name evoked a certain sophistication and beauty that she radiated as well. Of course most days we call her munchkin or Katniss, our little Samantha is the most beautiful tortoiseshell cat we ever have seen! While she cuddles and nuzzles with us, and is fairly talkative these days, calling to birds, letting us know she’s hungry (and wants us to come eat with her), she’s not too keen of strangers, and enjoys spending most days napping and bathing like the princess she is.
she enjoys getting in…everything. |
It’s hard to believe we’ve had her for almost five years now, but I couldn’t imagine life without her chasing hair-ties, drinking water from the sink, or her love for hide and seek swat tag at night!

PS – this is merely a fraction of pictures of miss Samantha – you’d be here for days if I posted them all! But be sure to follow along on Instagram and look for the tag #elliottkittengram for more cuteness than you’ll know what to do with 😉
