This past Sunday marked International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate the strong women in our lives, and recognize that their accomplishments. To say I have been blessed with incredible women in my life would be an understatement. I can’t even begin to speak to all of the women who are beautiful both inside & out that have touched my heart and impacted my life for the better. As I continue to grow up, the need for these women in my life continues, but also the need for me to be that women to the girls in my life is evident. In some small way, it is my goal to encourage them that they can make a difference. That they can excel in more than one area. And most importantly, they matter.
You’ve heard me mention before the importance of literary characters that build women up, and provide a good example that girls can look up to, both in and out of the movies and books.
Ones that are brave, intelligent, strong, courageous, talented, independent, caring, loyal, and that can make a change in this world. The world has enough people telling them they need to be stick thin and can only be successful if they cling to a man, we need women who will fight for equality and that will be bold enough to declare that women, along with me, are capable of making a difference in every aspect of the world.
So what better way to share than by listening to someone who is doing just that? Who is not letting age get in the way. Who is utilizing her platform for good. And who is paving the way for women around the globe through the UN Women and HeForShe.
I encourage you to join in, whether male or female, in advocating for human rights in all capacities. Gender. Race. Religion. Diagnosis. We are all people.
