It’s almost that time…football season is closely approaching! So what better way to get in the mood than share with y’all a bit about my favorite football team? Football is a big deal in the south, and SEC football is a breed all it’s own. Aside from SEC rivalries, in state rivalries are something fierce. In Alabama, you either say War Eagle or Roll Tide and you bleed either orange & blue or crimson & white. Now, if you’ve been here before, you have no doubt in your mind which way I lean.
I went to Auburn for both undergrad & grad school (and so did my husband) – so to say we are Auburn fans is a serious understatement. While I love everything about Auburn, nothing is more exciting than tailgating on the plains & watching our Tigers win in Jordan-Hare. Here’s what a typical game day in Auburn looks like:
Once walking to campus, the first place you head is to the Bookstore to get a game day button & ensure you have shakers before heading to the Quad. Tailgating on campus is complete with food, drinks, corn hole, and of course, lots of football.

Then off to Tiger Walk to welcome the team in, lead by our beloved Aubie before heading to the stadium to wait for the gates to open.

Next to Jordan-Hare to find your seats and prepare for the spine chilling intro videos to pump up the crowd. Then to watch the flight of the eagle onto the field as shakers twirl and our Battle Cry is lifted high : War Eagle!

Then the Marching Band enters, the fight song played, and 87,451 of your closet friends jump, yell, & cheer in unison as the mic man instructs us to get our hands up for Bodda Getta.

Then the game begins! And the Auburn Family will cheer on the Tigers from start to finish, and end the game chanting “It’s Great to Be an Auburn Tiger!” before singing the Alma Mater embracing our neighbors.
One of my favorite traditions from my alma mater is the rolling of Toomer’s Corner after an Auburn victory! After the game, everyone head’s to Toomer’s, TP in hand, and set about chanting & singing while rolling the trees, the lights, whatever can be rolled, at the corner of Magnolia & College before venturing out to celebrate with friends!
