After our trip to Chicago last year, I must say I became rather enthralled with the city. Craving to return, keen to recognize the cityscape on TV, and yearning to learn more about this enchanting place. While on our trip, we were able to see the World’s Fair exhibit in the Field Museum and one of the exhibitors pointed me to the book The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. While Chicago itself was the original pull for me, the World’s Fair is equally as fascinating.
The book is set in Chicago, circa 1893, intertwining the true tales of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who lured his victims to their deaths in his elaborately constructed “Murder Castle.”

Y’all, it is a wonderful twist of historical fiction and murder mystery that is laced with so much intricate detail. And even better, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in the Scorsese film that has finally gotten under way this year.Â
