Since the weather is generally pretty warm in Alabama for most of the year, we are able to spend a good amount of time of outside, so when we were looking for a house was a backyard space that had a patio where we could grill out and have friends over to entertain. Another must was to have a space for the puppy that we were planning on getting.
One of the cool things about our backyard is that it backs up to a little park space for our neighborhood with a walking path and a gazebo that is a perfect spot to hand my hammock for a little afternoon reading while the husband plays fetch with the puppy.
This is our patio space where LOTS of grilling out occurs. I love that I can sit outside and watch the puppy while the husband cooks, and it’s just perfect for post dinner chats with friends in the fall, especially with the string lights on, and the fan going strong.
You may remember when we built the fence to enclose our backyard. While that was a rather eventful experience, it has been so worth it! Since the pup’s recent adventure, we’ve made a few modifications to add in two electrical fences (running along the inner boards) to prevent her from scaling the fence again now that she knows she can.
One thing we truly love about having the fenced in backyard is that we can let the puppy out and she as space to run around and play, and go potty, without our supervision. The doggy door has been fabulous for this as well, since we can leave the door closed, but she can still get out. And I love that the top half has a window that pulls up and is screened. Since we don’t blinds on the storm door though, I wanted to make a way to cover the window if we wanted a bit more privacy. I go some 3m hooks, a tiny curtain rod, and a plain white curtain all for under $10 and was able to create a shade that pops off with ease!
