After we found out we were expecting a new addition, we couldn’t wait to tell our families! It was one of the most difficult things to keep secret (because as it turns out we’re not so good at the not being awkward when we know something others don’t lol). We wanted to tell our parents in a creative way, and Glenn really wanted Riley to be involved! We used the shoe photo to announce to the world with the Tiny Toms, and I wanted to incorporate the little burlap Toms in with Riley as well so we embarked on a hilarious afternoon of getting Riley to pose with her soon to be sibling’s new kicks. But alas! We got a great picture of her holding them in her mouth and framed it for the parentals.
Now the funniest thing was that when we gave the picture to them each, my mom and Glenn’s mom had such a similar reaction it was just too funny! We went over to see his parents and told them we had a gift for Pops for keeping Riley entertained with long walks while we were in Cancun and that we got Mama Lisa something fun too from our trip. Pops got some celebratory bourbon, and when Mama Lisa open the bag she saw that it was a framed picture of Riley and said how cute it was but nothing more. She put on her glasses to see what Riley was holding in her mouth & read the chalkboard sign, and then she realized just what was happening! We couldn’t help but laugh and celebrate with Pops & Gran on their first grandchild!
Similarly, we had my mom come meet us at the house to go to dinner as a thank you for staying with the furry children while we were in Cancun and  had the frame ready for her as well. Madre had been asking for me to print off some pictures of Riley for her, so I told her I went ahead and had one of them framed for her and the rest were coming so I wanted to go ahead and give that one to her tonight so she’d have it. And she did the same thing! Looked at it and said how precious Riley was, then hugged it to her chest, and was ready to go to dinner. Then she looked at it again while I was getting my purse and that’s when she got confused and said, wait – those are too small to be even your shoes. Then it clicked! Laughter ensued of course and we went on to celebrate Madre’s first biological grandchild!
It was so great to see the joy (and utter shock!) on all of their faces and be able to celebrate with each of them on this new journey 🙂 We told my brother & Glenn’s sister shortly after and then started to call/FaceTime other friends and family who don’t live close by. While I didn’t do something special to announce our pregnancy with my Fusion group, I did want to do something with them for a gender reveal as they have all been so excited for us and are a big part of my life! I’m telling y’all, these girls are incredible. And the reaction to the mini reveal was priceless. Watch below 🙂
