Every get tired of the same old Sunday School lesson by the same author each week? Cough cough, Adam Hamilton, cough cough. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Adam Hamilton video lesson and corresponding book every now and then, but all too often in the Methodist church this tends to be overdone, especially in the young adult sector. Another thing the church seems to be particularly good at is grouping like peoples together for classes – singles, married, married with young kids, 20s, 30s…you get the picture.
A few years ago now, a good many people voiced this opinion of wanting a space on Sundays that was focused on the material, not the people. A place where we could learn from one another and dive into the application of scripture feet first. Our Wednesday Night Studies have long done this – presenting a book or topic open to all who choose to sign up regardless of age, gender, or marital status – but few options have been made available during Sunday School. And thus Relevant was born. A class with a broader age bracket and no restrictions on wedding bands or babies.

God is relevant to every aspect of our lives – from what we eat, to the music we listen to, and how we react the headlines in our newspapers. Join us as we explore our culture, our faith, and how intentional living can merge the two together. This is a discussion based Sunday School class for young professionals (post undergrad – single or married – kids or not).
CLASS TOPICSÂ | The Wired Word
Each week we go through a lesson from that talks about something relevant in the news today. Topics range from terrorism to politics to natural disasters, the Grammys, commercialism, and everything in between. The lesson takes the story and begs the hard questions of us to examine our lives and apply scripture to these situations. There is always a great deal of discussion and a variety of viewpoints which makes the class interesting!
ONGOING CLASS SERVICE PROJECT | Firehouse Shelter
Also, as a class we have committed to serving a meal once a month for the men at the shelter. We pool together funds to purchase healthier options, prepare the meal on site, and serve the men for the evening meal. We’ve been serving for over a year, and it’s been incredible to see how the Lord moves in those times and through those men!
