Every year at Discovery there is a service project for the middle schoolers to do during the weekend. Stop Hunger Now is an organization that host meal planning events where over 10,000 meals are packed in two hours by 40-50 volunteers. Just think what happens when hundreds of people get together over several shifts!
This year for Celebration Sunday, the Sunday where the church finalizes pledges of giving for the upcoming year through our stewardship campaign, we had a mission opportunity to serve right then and there before or after the celebration luncheon. Our theme, Hey Neighbor, was structured around coming together as a community and serving our neighbors. It was the perfect time for families, Sunday School classes, and friends to join together and serve as one to feed thousands upon thousands of people who are hungry. I am so proud to be a part of a church that values missions and serving others here, abroad, and globally while remaining local. Our Sunday School class serves at Firehouse monthly so this was right up our alley and it was great to serve in another way together as a class.
