Feline Approved Clean House Habits

When I was a little girl, my brother brought home a tiny kitten and from that moment on, we became “cat people”. That was my first pet as a child, and in college the first of our two current cats stole my heart. Meet Sam & Piper here if you haven’t before 🙂 Now, while cats are certainly “easier” than dogs in a lot of respects, I’ve found there are a few simple ways to keep your cat(s) happy and how to keep your house clean with multiple furry felines!

clean house cats

1) Physical activity: I spend at least 15 minutes everyday playing with the cats. Grab a toy, laser, or other random things they like (hair ties, boxes) and challenge them! A cat whose spent their energy playing with you is less likely to make a mess by clawing your favorite chair or woven basket…

2) Lint roller: I keep one of these practically everywhere I go. You never know where you might find hair from your feline friends!

3) Keep extra treats around: Dogs aren’t the only ones who like a treat every now and then! Offer treats occasionally and you will get lots of face nuzzles and will curb the desire to bring in their own “treats” from outside creating a (often feathery) mess for you to clean up.

4) Make a “safe haven” just for them: Our laundry room holds their litter box, their food containers, and laundry baskets just begging for them to curl up in.

5) Clean their space daily: We have a hand brush to help keep stray litter tidied up, and cleaning wipes nearby as well to ensure their space is fresh for them every day! We also use the The Litter Genie® Cat Litter Disposal System to clean out their shared box, ensuring a comfortable space so no unwanted messes are found around the house.

Best thing is that you can achieve these simple steps with a quick trip to Target! And y’all know how much we love Target in this family. One of our favorite gadgets is the The Litter Genie® Pail. It’s especially helpful with both cats using the same liter box as we need to keep it clean quite often and this helps us not waste so many trips to the garbage. It’s easy to find in the pet aisle, and there was even a code for it on Cartwheel so extra savings were available on top of the already low price.

The The Litter Genie® Pail is not only convenient to use, but discreet as well! It fits in small spaces (like the corner of our laundry room) and helps to discreetly eliminate litter box odors up to 2 weeks at a time in style, while it’s unique air-tight design helps keep odors in, even when opening the lid. And it’s super simple too – Lock away litter odor in just 3 simple steps 1.) Scoop 2.) Open Lid 3.) Pull Handle. The refill lasts for about 2 months with one cat which is a lifesaver when you’ve got a million more things to do than bag up clumped litter. Head to Target (because you know you’re making a trip anyway) and grab yourself this hand little gem!

What’s your go to to keep you house clean and kitties happy?
