This year has been full of firsts for Emma and it has been so fun to watch as she grows and learns and continues to meet various milestones! The other exciting part of the “firsts” is being able to document her first holidays, events, and much more.
This year for Halloween we wanted to have a family theme and the husband really wanted the puppy to be a shark so we just went from there. We found the cutest tiny Nemo outfit for Emma so it was perfect! We opted for Glenn to be a fisherman instead of a scuba diver given the fact that it’s entirely too hot in Alabama for a scuba suit. Mine was an easy costume to figure out – I would be Dory of course! Emma had so much fun answering the door for the trick or treaters & handing out candy! We even went down the street and she trick or treated too!
Emma had several Halloween outfits, so of course we had to capture al of her looks for the holiday 🙂
We usually like to pull things out of our closet or costume trunk from camp for Halloween instead of buying anything, so for our costumes we did just that! If we end up buying anything, we always try to keep it to a minimum and keep our costumes simple. This year Glenn was able to pull everything out of his closet for his fisherman outfit.
To be Dory, I did need a few things. I was able to snag an oversized bright blue t-shirt & some bright yellow tulle for under $3 at Walmart. Paired this with some black leggings & a white headband and I had everything needed to make myself Dory. Quick, cheap, and simple. Â I cut some tulle to make a bow that I attached to the headband for my fin, and used the remaining tulle to make a tutu. I cut strips to tie to a scrap piece of tulle to tie around my waist. For a fuller tutu, just grab an extra roll of tulle!
For Riley, we needed to make a shark fin, so instead of buying a costume we opted to make a fin out of stuff we already had. We always have some cardboard around from boxes. And a roll of duct tape is a household must. All I did was cut out the fin and cover it in duct tape. Then I used more tape to attach the fin to the handle on her harness (that she’s already used to wearing). It was so simple!
My mom even found this tiny shark hat for Piper too which was hilarious. She didn’t keep it on for long, but we did manage to get a picture!
What did your family do for Halloween? I would love to hear your costume ideas!
