In the last few weeks I’ve been on the search for some good apps or books to keep in touch with scripture. Something that I could do on the go to start my day off, or during a quick break instead of scrolling through social media. Time is so precious, and I want to use it well! Sometimes with my schedule, sitting down to do a longer more in depth study just isn’t possible daily, so I’ve really been in the hunt for daily devotionals that would be a great habit to build into my day. So naturally, I’ve been asking around. And man have I gotten some great resources! So I wanted to share them with y’all!
Apps:
First5 App | So many people suggested this app when I asked for recommendations on Insta stories & several friends have said they love it. I am really excited to try it out! It’s a product of the Proverbs 31 Ministries, so you know it’s bound to be good. After a bit of browsing the app, there is a lot you can do! There are current studies, as well as a history of all of the past studies you can access. You can also join a public group, or even create a private group for your own bible study to be able to chat with other ladies and discuss the studies. There is a way to share devotions with a group in the app or through other social media methods. I also like that you can set reminders!
She Reads Truth | Not only do they have an app, but the have several devotions on their site as well as a daily devotional email. You can read through the Bible in full context in a few different versions right in the app which is very cool. There are also a variety of studies ranging from 5 to 14 or 30 days and even a year long plan to read scripture. You can even create notes and bookmarks. Plus, they share the most adorable inspirational phone wallpapers on their app and there is quite an extensive collection. I’m a fan.
YouVersion Bible App | Now, this app has come a LONG way. When I first got it, it was to have easier access to scripture for Sunday School in case I forgot my Bible (let’s face it, getting all the stuff ready for yourself & a little one means you always forget something). It sends you a daily verse and gives you access to scripture in 1,544 versions in 1,114 languages. Crazy. It even has audio of the readings. There are also a ton of plans to choose from for devotionals. Now, while this app isn’t targeted just at women, the different categories of plans are really cool. They range from work, to leadership, marriage, dating, and even specific ones for men and women. It really is a great resource!
Books:
(which can all be read on the Kindle or Kindle App too!)
Pressing Pause: 100 Quiet Moments for Moms to Meet With Jesus | If you’re not a mom, skip this one. But fellow mamas, take notes. After getting this suggestion, I popped on Amazon and after seeing one of the authors is a Proverbs31 speak, I was intrigued. The description was too good to not just copy it here. I cannot wait to get this come Christmas (it’s never too early to add things to your list 😉
Pressing Pause offers you a calm way to start your day, to refresh yourself in Jesus and drink deeply of His presence so that you are ready to pour out love, time, and energy into the people who matter most to you. These 100 encouraging devotions for moms will help you begin each day with Scripture, drawing on God’s power, ingesting His Word, and learning practical ways to love and serve more like His Son.
Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are | I don’t know about you, but I am a Shauna Niequist fan. The ONLY reason it’s taken me around 8 months to finish Present Over Perfect is because grad school requires an inordinate amount of reading. (Hence the desire for brief devos I can do on the go!). It’s a 365 devotional that also includes recipes. I just love this idea! So much of Southern culture revolves around food (especially in the church). The idea of breaking bread together in growing faith and community is one that I adore.
So read and learn and pray and cook and share. Remember to savor each day, whatever it holds: work and play, coffee and kids, meals and prayers and the good stuff and the hard stuff. Life is all about relationships, and your daily relationship with God is worth savoring in every moment.
Comparison Trap | A 28-day Devotional for Women | Y’all, I’ve heard great things about this one, especially if confidence is a area you tend to struggle with and comparison comes all too easy. Andy Stanley has yet to disappoint, so I’m excited to hear from his wife, Sandra. Complete with prayers woven in and challenges, this one has a great potential!
Did I leave your favorite devotionals off the list? Leave a comment and let me know so I can check it out!
