On our first day in London, we had a lovely tea time set up for our first event of the day and I am SO glad we didn’t end up missing it!
A little backstory…our flight was delayed from Birmingham to Atlanta, and despite SPRINTING through the airport we missed our original flight. But, after several phone conversations (with some less than helpful folks), and then Cheryl with Delta at the gate next to us being amazing – we all made it on the next flight out to London! Though our luggage did not…it was delayed to the following flight and arrived in London about an hour after we landed (somewhat broken sadly).
The ladies with Delta in London however were incredible, providing us vouchers to go and get breakfast (and snacks for the whole week!) while we waited for our luggage to arrive. All this being said, we ended up leaving Heathrow almost 5 hours after originally scheduled. Thankfully, our tea time was able to be pushed back and we made it just in time!
We had a traditional afternoon tea at The Rose Lounge in the gorgeous Sofitel London St. James. We had tea (obviously), champagne, and the most glorious display of savory and sweet treats. The room itself was probably the girliest room I have ever been in – Emma would have been in heaven with all the pink! It was cozy and intimate, but still quite elegant. It was truly an experience and I am so glad we were able to do it! I would highly recommend it if you are in London.
That evening, we went to the London Eye and despite the rain, the views were still gorgeous! For those of you who don’t know, the London Eye is a giant Ferris Wheel on the bank of the River Thames. It is about 450ft tall and has 32 ovoidal capsules that rotate around the wheel. It’s completely enclosed and there is a bench in the middle, but people are able to walk around. In fact it can hold about 25 people at a time, and they have a picture opportunity as well in the capsule (though they need a timer or something lol). The views are absolutely stunning at night and I imagine it would be equally as amazing during the day.
We did the 4D cinema experience following our ride and it was pretty fun as well. There were also several photo opportunities throughout the experience with options to purchase pictures with different backgrounds. While certainly touristy and a bit pricey, it’s a fun souvenir to have if the picture is good! Definitely a must see attraction when in London!
Following the London Eye, we had drinks dinner at the The Rooftop at the Trafalgar St. James (our hotel) and it was spot on. It was tapas style so we were able to try just about everything on the menu along with some fun cocktails. It was so nice to get to know the whole team – from AT&T & TMA – and it started the trip off on such a great note! Post diner we opted to find a bar for drinks and had the funniest experience trying to get in a place. Because there were 10 of us, we got turned away from 3 places and were told they could not accommodate a party so large (at a bar) so we ended up splitting up into small groups and found this crazy little tiki bar that made me feel like we were in college again. I’m talking DJ, flashing lights, dancing, and shot trains. Clearly we were dressed the part 😉 Mahiki was such a fun place! We ended up staying out till about 2am after traveling the entire day before and it was such a crazy day but set the tone for the trip!
