As we are in the midst of a global pandemic – maybe now is the best time to do a unit on community helpers. We are exploring all of our front line heroes – from the doctors and nurses that are taking care of everyone who is sick, to the police officers and firefighters protecting our city.
During this crazy time – we always seek to find the helpers. Which of course of those in scrubs, but also those organizations dedicated to serving those heroes. A fellow Birmingham Blogger, Lindsey Lutz started Frontline Heroes to do just that. Frontline Heroes Birmingham provides meals to healthcare workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic at Birmingham area hospitals. If you are an organization who wants to sponsor, or just someone who wants to donate, check out their site.
Now, back to our crafting! Here’s everything you’ll need:
Materials:
- q-tips
- glue
- black construction paper
- flour
- pencil
Instructions:
- trace your little ones’s hand and forearm
- have them glue on the q-tips to make the “bones” (let dry)
- have them place their arm down over the “bones” and sprinkle flour over their arm to “take” the x-ray (rub in the excess into the black paper for the cloudy film effect)
- when they remove their arm they can see their bones!
