While going to the dentist is no one’s favorite, it’s such an important part of keeping your body healthy. And we love to include dentist in our community helper week!
These episodes are fun to review about going to the dentist before your little ones have a visit! Peppa Pig Goes to the Dentist, and Daniel Tiger Goes to the Dentist. Also, just like playing doctor for pretend play, playing dentist is super fun! This craft is great for teaching the teeth and how to clean them.
Materials:
- Red construction paper
- Pink construction paper
- Mini marshmallows
- Scissors
- Glue
Instructions:
- Take 1 pink construction paper sheet and fold it in half along the narrow end.
- Cut along the crease. Fold one half and cut a semi-circle. (When opened, it will look like an oval.)
- The top half will be the top of the mouth and the bottom half will be the bottom of the mouth.
- Count 32 mini marshmallows and divide into 2 equal groups of 16.
- Start at the bottom of the mouth craft, using your glue, make a line along the rounded part.
- Starting in the middle, glue 2 mini marshmallows, which will be the incisors (bottom center teeth) and work your way out until all 16 teeth are glued. (Try to keep them even on both sides.)
- Now do the same thing, but on the top side of the mouth.
- Starting in the middle, glue 2 mini marshmallows, which will be the incisors (top center teeth) and work your way out until all 16 teeth are glued. (Try to keep them even on both sides.)
- Take the red construction paper and cut out a tongue (elongated semi- circle) and a 1×5 in strip.
- Glue the tongue on the bottom part of the mouth.
- Let dry completely
- Once dry, close the mouth craft. Glue the long strip on the top part of the mouth craft. (The fingers will go inside the strip to open and close.)
This cavity counting worksheet is also a fun way to talk about teeth!
