This time during homeschool has brought out a love of bugs, insects, and tiny creatures that I was unaware that Emma possessed! We got her a tiny terrarium and she has loved chasing down little creatures to capture in it. After Piper the cat brought in (another) lizard, we decided to make a craft and found a fun tutorial for a pipe cleaner chameleon.
Materials:
- Pipe cleaners
- Glue
- Small scissors
- Googley eyes
Instruction:
- For the head, make a loop in the middle of a pipe cleaner. The size and shape of the loop determine the size and shape of the head. Wrap head from neck to nose.
- For the body, coil a pipe cleaner around a marker (the thicker the marker, the fatter the animal) and slide off.
- Leave his tail extra long for curling.
- Slip legs between coils, and twist.
- Bend knees and feet.
- Cut a skinny pipe cleaner for tongue.
- Glue on googley eyes.
- Slide tongue into the face, and curl end.
We’ve been really into finding creatures on nature walks, and lizards of all sorts have been one of the favorites! Check out some of them below:
