As a part of Weather Week, we made this adorable smiley face sunshine craft. This is a super simple craft to work on folding, cutting, and gluing skills!
This is also a great song to sing with your kids about the sun!
Materials:
- Orange construction paper
- Yellow construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencil
- Googley eyes
- Pipe cleaner
Instructions:
- Fold one top corner down to meet the opposite edge, forming a triangle.
- Cut the excess paper below the triangle.
- Fold the triangle in half to come up with a smaller triangle.
Turn the triangle so that the solid corner (the corner corresponding to the paper’s center) is at the bottom. Divide the triangle into 3 equal sections, each with a 30 degree angle.Â
Fold the triangle’s left section towards the front. Similarly fold the right section towards the front.
Flip the entire shape over so that the side with the horizontal edge is facing front. Cut along the horizontal edge so that you come up with a wedge.
Draw a “V” connecting the top corners of the wedge. The taller you draw your “V”, the longer your sun’s rays will be. Cut along the line.
Carefully unfold the paper to reveal a sun with twelve rays.
- Make a yellow circle. Make the circle slightly smaller than the twelve-rayed.
- Add a face (glue one) using the googley eyes and the pipe cleaner for the mouth.
