You know coffee is of vital importance in my life, and most moms I know. While I love a good stop at Starbucks or the Chelsea Coffee House, being able to make a great cup at home is always imperative. We’ve had some version of a Keurig since we were married, and I’ve also had one in my office as well since we’ve lived in Birmingham. Well, when the pandemic hit, we decided that we wanted to check out the Nespresso and accompanying frother. After having both, I wanted to do a review of coffee makers based on our experience.
Keurig Original
We have had this one multiple times over 11 years – one at home that we replaced about 4 years after with the 2.0 after we got it and I took this one to work. I had that one at work where multiple people used it multiple times per day. After about 2 years there (6 total), I replaced it with the same one that I still have at work about 5 years strong. There’s a reason we keep coming back to this one.
Keurig 2.0
I got this one through a blogging opportunity that you can read all about here. We really enjoyed this one, as it was practically the similar to the original, with the addition of the touchscreen instead of the main buttons. I did like the feature of this one that had a spot to check for “strong” or for hot chocolate or cider. Otherwise, it’s much the same as the original, however it did not last as long – perhaps 5 years, so not too much less.
Nespresso
I love a good espresso, while the husband enjoys straight coffee, so we got this one as a compromise that included the frother, that could do both while we were both spending so much time at home during the pandemic. I did enjoy the reoccurring order of the pods from nespresso. I absolutely LOVED it…at first. I enjoyed the creamier texture of the coffee, and the richer taste of the espresso pods added into my coffee. The addition of the frother really stepped up our barista game as well. However, less than two weeks in – it started malfunctioning and stopped working all together. We took it back to Target, and exchanged it for another one. This one lasted less than a year before it started doing the same thing. We tried all sorts of things to fix it, but ultimately it just didn’t work correctly again. I took it to work, and revived it for exactly one cup before we ended up simply throwing it in the dumpster.
Keurig K-Express
After the issues with the Nespresso, I came home from a conference to this one that my husband bought while I was gone because he couldn’t take it any more. And I must say it’s been very reliable. The simplicity of it it what we really enjoy. No fancy computer screen, just the buttons for size. Plus, the stand alone frother works beautifully, so it’s a great addition to any coffee maker. This has the feeling of the original, in a slimmer form.
